The Kuba Kingdom, or Kuba confederation, is a state and political entity comprising some 20 Bantu peoples, which developed from various Bantu states. The kingdom is located in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In the Kuba kingdom, every object, no matter how banal, bears the mark of a shared artistic requirement and reveals a refined intention. Kuba art is characterized by an exceptional sense of form and color. Kuba art is first and foremost a royal and aristocratic art. The art takes the form of statues, combs, razor holders, stylized blush boxes, cephalomorphic cups, dance masks and embroidered fabrics woven from raffia fiber.
Retour De Voyage appreciates this beautiful piece of primitive art.
Primitive art or primary art connects us to nature and the archaic simplicity of a beautiful everyday object. This pot undoubtedly had a very practical use, it is now a work of art in its own right, coming from a civilization which had a great sense of aesthetics. Its patina and its age give it all its value.
