Iconic statue by artist Ndary Lo of a woman standing on high heels, made in 2013 from concrete reinforcing bars. Height 147 cm.
Since 1992, the sculptor Ndary Lo has been researching the use of iron, culminating in his "Hommes qui marchent", long metal silhouettes which, with their slender women with blurred faces and scrap metal bellies filled with doll heads, have won him numerous awards. These 3 "standing women" entrusted to the Retour de voyage gallery by the artist's family, following their arrival the day after the confinement, are a perfect illustration of the artist's work. Why are these women wearing high heels? Ndary Lo has always freed himself from the gaze of others, creating in absolute freedom. These women are both deeply rooted in the ground and paradoxically never cease to play on their seduction. There is no fragility or vulnerability in his spindly figures; on the contrary, they are strength, dynamism and determination. The Retour De Voyage gallery had already exhibited the artist Ndary Lo in 2017 in an exhibition called "Noires Silhouettes". We are delighted to present him again and to offer these "standing women".
