This photograph was taken by Hans Silvester in the Camargue in the 1960s. This is the time when the artist is welcomed by the manadiers and where the Camargue and the horses were much less domesticated than at present... This image symbolizes freedom: she is a young woman from Arles who bathes with her horse, far from the conventions and constraints of the time, far from any parental authority, in search of freedom and nature!
Retour De Voyage has selected this photograph that has its place in the iconic photos of characters taken by Hans Silvester for eternity. It is also a feminine character that should be shown alongside the New Orleans jazz player with his hat or that beer drinker in the smoky atmosphere of a Temple bar pub.
