Democratic Republic of Congo
Used patina wood and pigments - Height 29 cm - Late 19th, early 20th century
Anthropological-zoomorphic mask, covered with red and white pigments, probably used during ceremonies like circumcision the funeral of a dignitary, to soothe the spirits of the forest.
Retour De Voyage was entrusted with a private collection of African masks and pygmy loincloths to present them for sale. A selection has been made among the proposed items and we are certain of the quality of this exhibition. This is not the first time that Retour De Voyage has sold authentic African masks. Do you remember the exhibition "Passeurs de Rêves" in 2016, which brought together the Dan masks from the Rouayroux collection, the masks painted by Michel Loeb and the photographs of the scarecrows of the Omo Valley, hunted down by the tireless Hans Silvester?
