Gardenia flower like a plant sculpture, suspended in silence. Wrapped in shades of silky white, each petal of this flower seems to emerge slowly from the darkness of the floral heart into the diffuse light. The photograph captures not only the form, but also the material, a fragile velvetiness.
Denis Brihat has devoted his life to exploring the plant world through photography. Settling in Provence in the late 1950s, he developed a singular body of work, combining technical rigor with a poetic eye. His images - onions, tulips, persimmons, kiwis, dead leaves, trees in all seasons... - reveal the intimate structure of living things, magnified by artisanal processes: iron, copper and selenium bends, hand-coloring with gold...
Each photograph is a meditation. Far from the instantaneous gesture, Denis Brihat cultivates slowness, repetition, variation and innovation, without ever breaking the link with nature. This exhibition pays tribute to a great photographer, whose silent work invites us to slow down in order to see better.
