This double door was brought back directly from India, and more specifically from Rajasthan, by Retour De Voyage. Impressive in size, it's the finesse and subtlety of the hand-painted designs that really grab you. You can't help but be fascinated by the scene, with its abundance of detail.
At first, our gaze doesn't know where to land: is it the dozens of velvet-eyed sacred cows wisely gathered together, or the intriguing flying gods that first catch your eye? These two doors function like mirrors, depicting a scene from the Hindu religion: deities, animals and people rub shoulders between heaven and earth. Indeed, if you pay close attention, you'll recognize Vishnu, one of the greatest deities whose role is to preserve the Universe. Brahma, on the left door, is part of the Trimurti with Vishnu and Shiva, in which he is the wise God, creator of the universe. The deities tower above the scene, at sky level. Sacred animals are represented, such as the cow, a symbol of wealth, and the peacock, revered by Hindus as representing the God Krishna.
Although mysterious in many ways, these paintings are nonetheless sacred. This original work will captivate many! Carefully selected by Retour De Voyage, these hand-painted wooden doors can be integrated into masonry to allow passage between two rooms.
