India - Wooden leopard statue
Leopard statue
India - Rajasthan
Hand painted wood
Mid 20th century
Dimensions : 47cm x 50cm x 12cm
Directly from India, and more precisely from Rajasthan, this mid-twentieth century leopard is looking for a home to spend his old age. Meticulously hand-painted and carved from wood, Retour De Voyage guarantees that he is docile and endearing. More than just an affectionate statue, the leopard in India embodies protection, and this is due to the way it hunts. Although he is the smallest in the kingdom of the big cats of nature (that assures him a better ergonomics in your interior) he beats all his opponents thanks to his physical capacities and especially for his incredible agility. Some people have even erected him as a deity under the name of Waghoba. Beyond its symbol of protection, Waghoba is a positive belief towards large predators and favors the cohabitation with local communities, sometimes stormy.
Legend has it that as long as it is treated with respect, this deity will be able to annihilate bad omens. It is even said that the god Shiva gave the leopard full power to eat anything he wanted... So please, treat this good old leopard with respect.
