When Hans Silvester arrived in Provence in the early 1960s, he was captivated by the creativity of peasants in the art of making scarecrows to frighten birds. The search for the most beautiful scarecrows began to fascinate the artist who, over the years, gathered an immense collection of images of these "statues" from popular art, each more beautiful and more inventive than the other. It is also a collection of photographs that has been the subject of many exhibitions around the world and many books have been published on this subject, where scarecrows of Provence, Japan of Africa or Burma meet...
Retour De Voyage has selected this photograph of this nice man who was the fruit of the imagination of the farmers of the Vaucluse plateaux and who sat on his bike in the middle of the fields to try to save the crops.
