When Hans Silvester arrived in Provence in the early 1960s, he was captivated by the creativity of peasants in the art of making scarecrows to frighten birds. The search for the most beautiful scarecrows began to fascinate the artist who, over the years, gathered an immense collection of images of these "statues" from popular art, each more beautiful and more inventive than the other.
