What lies behind this photograph ?

The humor of the image emerges from the contrast between this enormous “American beauty,” proudly displaying its spare wheels, immobilized at a red light, and the tenderness radiating from a couple standing close together, somewhat lost in this America of excess and grandeur.

Produced from the artist’s original black-and-white negatives, the photograph has been printed using traditional silver gelatin processes. The depth of the blacks, the delicacy of the grain, and the balance of contrasts give the print a strong material presence, faithful to the photographer’s original intention.
