Dominique Coffignier

A contemporary, self-taught painter, Domonique Coffignier was born in Paris in 1956. He expresses his emotions through paintings composed of multiple ingredients, charged with materials and warm colors.

«  Coffignier's painting is not just abstract, it exudes human warmth, radiating a lyricism all the more striking for its reduced palette. Anthracite, ecru, brown, purple and ultramarine masses form the panorama of a great terrestrial fresco, fragmented by the lips of volcanoes, shores, gaps, chasms and black holes that often appear in the middle of paintings, providing a beautiful setting for signs, lines and light to emerge.

Coffignier invites us to follow the “dream trails” that his large canvases leave in their uniform wake. His painting is a search for the third dimension, a new definition of matter, an adventure that takes us out of chaos. His canvases, marked by horizon lines, borders and demarcations, suggest an escape, a passage from inside to outside. They show the world as a whole, with no boundaries between day and night. Coffignier seems to reproduce the earth's outpourings, the explosive marriage of lava and ocean, captured in a sensual visual bombardment where hand gestures denote violent tenderness. Using oil sticks, the artist engraves his first signs bristling with radiant barbed wire, his flamboyant graffiti bearing bruises, stains, splashes, traces and human warmth. »
