Tribal art, a pulley adorned with a sculpture of an elephant from which it takes its strength and resistance.
Elephant pulley, Baule, Ivory Coast. Wood, pigments. Late 19th/early 20th century. Height 23.5 cm.
This loom pulley featuring an elephant's head presents an exceptionally rare iconography!
An anthropozoomorphic pulley of great delicacy, with a gentle patina acquired over the years. Beyond its primary utilitarian function, the artist has sculpted an elephant's head that exudes a certain emotion. It adorns the pulley, making this object a veritable statue of African art worthy of the collections to which it once belonged.
This statuette completes the exhibition of African art objects presented with paintings of African inspiration by Dominique Coffignier, at the Retour de Voyage gallery, which has selected objects of the highest quality, offering a wide choice to collectors and visitors alike. Objects can be viewed in the gallery from early April 2025.
