The Kaka form a small ethnic group on the border between Nigeria and Cameroon, along the Donga River.
These geometrically-shaped objects, which represent ancestors, are always covered with a crusty patina. This statuette, with its bent legs, arms outstretched and massive head, exudes an imposing strength. It may represent a protective spirit of the lineage. It was used by the Mbir secret society to help the soul of the deceased join other deceased members of the lineage in the afterlife. These statues were hidden by the person in charge of them in a secret location near a village altar.
Retour De Voyage is delighted to be able to offer these exceptional statuettes for sale.
