Eden – Ruta Jusionyte
If this painting were a Tarot arcana, it would be "The Hermit".
In withdrawal, truth begins to emerge.
Solitude becomes a guide, revealing what is essential.
Time slows down, allowing a deeper clarity to surface.
A sleeping young woman rests against a lion with tawny and fiery orange tones, a protective figure that feels almost mythological. Around them, fruit-laden branches, crimson grapes, and a blue shell create a dreamlike setting reminiscent of a symbolic garden suspended between dream, nature, and ancient storytelling.
Through warm colors and enveloping forms, Ruta Jusionyte composes a scene of instinctive gentleness, where human and animal seem bound by silent trust, isolated within a benevolent nature... The work as a whole evokes a powerful inner movement: that of a conscious progression, learning to guide one’s own path without denying its contradictions, and discovering within their very coexistence the true strength to move forward.
Themes evoked in this work: introspection, inner wisdom, silence, and the quest for truth.
Ruta Jusionyte has developed a body of work that is instantly recognizable, at the crossroads of Neo-Expressionism and Magical Realism. Born in 1978 in Lithuania, she lives and works in France and has established herself as a significant figure on the contemporary European art scene.
Her work explores the relationships between humans and animals, in compositions where figures intertwine, respond to one another, and protect each other. Horses, hares, elephants, and hybrid creatures embody inner forces, between instinct and consciousness. Through a warm palette and dense materiality, she develops a powerful pictorial language, both accessible and deeply symbolic.
Awarded the Académie des Beaux-Arts Prize in 2019, Ruta Jusionyte is now sought after by collectors drawn to a form of painting where emotion and visual intensity converge.
