A small figure stands upright, arms crossed, still and self-contained. His smooth, shaven head and barely defined facial features give him an enigmatic presence, quiet yet intense. When the man dons his wolf’s head — a mask that entirely envelops his own — the transformation is striking. Two large ears rise, a pointed muzzle stretches forward, and the creature watches you, suspended between instinct and awareness.

Pierre Sgamma plays with contrasts: the smoothness of the human skull against the textured fur of the animal, the fragile posture of man against the raw power of the beast, the restrained inner self against the unleashed primal force. The work speaks of metamorphosis, duality, and the hidden animal within us all.

Renowned for his poetic and unsettling figures, Pierre Sgamma explores the uncertain boundary between humanity and animality, dream and reality. Trained first as a ceramicist — a medium through which he could express the sensuality of touch and the uniqueness of form — he later turned to bronze, seeking durability and the possibility of exhibiting his sculptures outdoors, without losing the expressive tension of his modelling.

Each ceramic piece by Sgamma is a unique, signed work, while his bronzes, numbered in editions of eight and signed, carry forward the same dialogue between fragility and endurance, living matter and the passage of time.

The Wolf-Man encapsulates this exploration: a hybrid being, poised between man and myth, where bronze — through its density and luminous depth — gives the sculpture’s silence a profound, almost spiritual resonance.
