This Black Rider, straight from Pierre Sgamma's imagination, once again illustrates his incredible creativity. He wears an impressive golden helmet with bulging eyes and menacing horns, as well as a royal tattoo on his shoulder. In stark contrast to this black character, his white mount has a poetic floral dress and a double pair of small golden horns reminiscent of a gentle mythological animal. More than a horseman, he's a knight who takes us into a mystical and chivalrous universe. A former horseman, Pierre pays tribute in this series presented by Retour De Voyage to the relationship between horse and rider, with his characteristic humour. In this work of art, it is the rider who carries the horse, rather than the other way round. As a result, more or less consciously, you can't help thinking of a child wearing a sophisticated disguise.

This artist has developed his own visual language, a singular universe that unfolds with great freedom of expression. Poetic and sensitive, Pierre Sgamma's world shakes us up, scratches us and sways us between heartbreak and appeasement. He transcends established codes by juxtaposing the sublime and the grotesque, candour and perversity. He says: ‘In the most intense moments of production and creation, I don't work, I play. Each piece is a piece of me, charged with my experience of love, violence, fears, lacks and desires. I make fun of myself, of this great comedy that is life.
