Small statues created by sculptor Ndary Lo in 2015.
The sculptor Ndary Lo left us in spring 2017. He was a graduate of the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Dakar and was pursuing research on the theme of Man, with concrete iron as his base material, using the moiré effect of rust and the corrosion of welding points. With his "Hommes qui marchent", he has taken part in various exhibitions in Senegal and abroad. A Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres of the French Republic, he has won several prizes and awards, including the Léopold Sédar Senghor Grand Prize at the Dakar Biennale in 2002 and 2008. Ndary Lo was born in 1961 in Rusfisque, Senegal, into a middle-class family.
For Ndary Lo, it is the very essence of man to be upright and on the move throughout his life. People build their lives and move forward. Inspired by this movement, in the mid-1990s he created large-scale works, before moving on to a more intimate approach, creating smaller-scale walkers, in particular his hand-in-hand walkers who face life together.
