India - ancient plaid of the nomads of the Thar desert

A piece of fabric that takes you back in time to the crossing of the Thar Desert...

This antique hand-woven wool plaid was used by nomads in the Thar desert of Rajasthan. Natural shades dominate, highlighting the precious embroidery depicting the lives of the desert dwellers, in warm, cheerful colours. The richness of the embroidery (we particularly admire the braid) is a sign of the status of its owners, who were undoubtedly wealthy merchants. We let ourselves be carried away with them on long camel journeys, followed by evenings in the shelter of tents generously lined with comfortable carpets and cushions. A dreamed life ? A life of adventure and discovery!

The total dimensions of this rug are 135 x 170 cm. Chosen by Retour De Voyage from a carpet merchant in Jailsamer, among a few rare relics buried at the back of the shop.

Plaid in good condition, with a few small holes and dark spots.
