"Pétanque, jeu provençal" is an album book entirely designed by the great photojournalist Hans Silvester, from which he has carefully selected each photo.
Hans Silvester arrived in Provence in the 1960s, where he discovered the vital role played by pétanque in the villages of the Luberon. More than just a game, pétanque is a rendezvous. The most experienced players are captured by Hans Silvester's sharp eye, who knows how to freeze these suspended moments. The less expert, on the other hand, gather as spectators and transform this simple game into an unmissable meeting place. Hans Silvester invites us to watch these men, but also these women, these children, concentrated on the moment, serious in the game, a fragment of Provence as he sees it, imagines it and describes it since his first "descent into paradise" over sixty years ago.
Each photograph has been meticulously selected by the artist, and each page is printed in photo quality to further enhance them. Pétanque, jeu provençal" is the 2nd part of the limited edition collection of Hans Silvester's greatest hits, following "Les chats du soleil". This album book takes us back to the villages of Provence and the customs of a bygone era, which Hans Silvester has succeeded in magnifying.
