Is it an African mask that you can make out in this powerful abstraction? Is it a Sahelian mountain that emerges from the blackness of the chasms that surround it?... everyone will be able to find a way to escape in these lines that suggest volume.

Coffignier observes and explores everyday life. He translates his emotions into energetic painting. Africa has reinforced the magical, powerful style of his canvases. Earthy colors, ochres, red ochres, whites, grays, blacks and then accents, sometimes an orange or a small cold blue note in a bubbling of materials, colors, splashes, stripes, bites, scratches, and then the balance presented, imposed by the large masses. He knows how to carry us away thanks to his gesture that plays with shapes, and he brings that dimension and presence that are his signature.

Retour De Voyage is delighted to present this work, whose colors and shapes accompany Dominique's other canvases, as well as primitive art objects selected for this exhibition, to immerse us in this world of travel, both tender and violent, across the African continent and through the ages.
