Burma - Pair of ethnic Statues
Burma is a true cultural mosaic and is home to more than 135 ethnic groups. These small statues were used in schools to teach children about the different clothing traditions of different ethnicities. The military junta seized power in the country in 1962. Wanting to stamp out the ethnic and religious specificities, these statues were banned and destroyed. Since the recent opening of the country, some of them are starting to reappear.
