The new book by Hans Silvester published in Martinière is a true ode to the creativity and aesthetic sense of Suri in total symbiosis with nature. The Suri are semi-nomadic herders in the Omo Valley, the cradle of humanity in southern Ethiopia. They are known for "the fascinating paintings they cover their face and torso", amazing artistic combinations between headgear and face and body painting. Once shaved fresh as is their tradition the Suri cover their heads with foliage and plants that nature offers them: berries, herbs, flowers, flowers and fruits.
For many years, Hans Silvester went to meet this ethnic group, still little known. The many photos taken will remain a testimony for ever of this spontaneous creativity that is now evolving towards a more tourist-oriented activity.
