Htein Lin, born in Mezaligon, Burma in 1966, is a multi-talented artist, globally recognized for his paintings, installations, and the messages he conveys.
A passionate activist, student-soldier, and then political prisoner for nearly 7 years, he married Vicky Bowman, former UK ambassador to Myanmar, upon his release. They lived in London for 13 years before returning to Myanmar, where he uses all kinds of artistic mediums to share his Burmese values and echo societal changes and political events. He is known for an evocative, simple style, with a handcrafted aesthetic that oscillates between the abstract and the profoundly human. His works traverse the history of conflict, pain, healing, identity, and religion, while celebrating the spirit and beauty of ordinary people.
